On June 11, 2011, Lt Col Brandon Beightol assumed command of the 222d Operations Support Squadron (OSS) from Lt Col Robert Sage. The ceremony was officiated by Col Steven Beck, the 162d Combat Communications Group commander.

Lt Col Sage commanded the 222 OSS from its stand up in 2008. Under his leadership, the unit grew from three initial squadron members to near 100% manning. The results of his efforts have been hailed as the model for total force integration.

Lt Col Beightol assumed command of the men and women of the 222 OSS and brings vast intelligence experience to the unit. He most recently served as Chief, Ground ISR Division, National Guard Bureau, Arlington, VA. Lt Col Beightol was the functional manager for all Air National Guard Ground ISR personnel, including DCGS, targeting, cyber ISR, and unit-level intelligence support.
