New Facility Enhances Mission Capability

SEPULVEDA AIR NATIONAL GUARD STATION, Van Nuys, Calif. – The 195th Wing’s Operations Group at the Sepulveda Air National Guard Station christened a new facility here – an effort that was years in the making.

“This brings tears to my eyes,” said Lt. Col. Jeremy Peralta, deputy commander of the 195th OG, “It just goes to show that with teamwork and persistence we can get things accomplished.”

The project involved constructing an annex to the group’s main building, a need that quickly emerged after the stand-up of the 195th Wing in 2015, the newest wing in the Air National Guard.

According to Lt. Col. Peralta, housing all the new hires became an immediate concern as the wing expanded quickly.

“Where are we going to put all these people?” he asked. So they put in the requirement to get the building funded and on contract, said Lt. Col. Peralta

Lt. Col. Peralta says the project was a team effort. One of the many key players in making it all come together was Communications Specialist, Master Sgt. Hector Barragan.

“I came in and did the layout, I figured out where to put plugs, power pull, port locators, things like that,” said Barragan. “Then CE did electrical and plumbing.”

Barragan was working through the day of the ribbon-cutting ceremony to make sure the new tenants had internet access. He also enjoyed the honor of cutting the ribbon himself.
